While this past winter was much milder than we’re used to here in Chicago, we’re all really looking forward to the warm weather and sunshine that comes in tow with spring! This is the perfect time of year for you to catch up on all the building maintenance that might have been taken the backburner over the winter months.

Check your fire extinguishers – This should be done annually and what better time than spring cleaning? Make sure the hoses and nozzles are in good condition & that the pressure gauge is in the “green” range to ensure your fire extinguishers are ready for use.

Smoke Detectors – Most professionals in the industry advise changing the batteries in your smoke detectors every year during Daylight Savings. Be sure to inspect each to make sure everything is in working order.

Roof – If you’re the building owner, check the roof for any snow or ice damage. This allows you to make any necessary repairs before any potential damage could lead to leaks.

Walkways & Driveways – Reduce the risk of a liability claim on your property by repairing any cracks or uneven surfaces to your walkways & driveways (especially in those high traffic areas like a main entrance or parking lot.)

Just a little springtime maintenance allows for a smooth summer with less likelihood for a pricy property or liability claim.
